Sailfish fishing in West Palm Beach

Palm Beach has earned a reputation as one of Florida's great sailfish destinations. The combination of the nearby Gulf Stream, strong currents, baitfish and seasonal weather patterns creates excellent opportunities for sailfish throughout the waters off Palm Beach.

One of the biggest advantages is how close productive offshore water can be to the coast. Our location at Sailfish Marina allows us to leave the inlet and quickly begin looking for the conditions we want.

Less running means more time with baits in the water.

Tournament-proven sailfish experience

Fish with the Remix team.

Sailfishing isn't something we occasionally do. It's a major part of the Remix Sportfishing story. Captain JC Cleare and the Remix team have spent years fishing and competing in South Florida's sailfish tournament circuit.

Tournament fishing demands preparation, teamwork, quality equipment, attention to detail and the ability to react quickly as conditions change. We bring that same mentality to our sailfish charters.

You don't have to be a tournament angler to fish with us. First-time anglers are welcome, and our crew will walk you through everything you need to know.

But if you're an experienced fisherman looking for a crew that takes sailfishing seriously, you're in the right place.

How we catch sailfish

Sailfish are fast, aggressive and unpredictable, which is exactly what makes targeting them so exciting. Our fishing techniques depend on weather, current, bait availability and where the fish are moving.

One of the most effective techniques in South Florida is live-bait kite fishing. Kite fishing allows us to suspend live baits naturally at or near the surface while keeping much of the terminal tackle out of the water. When a sailfish finds the spread, the bite can be spectacular.

We may also use other live-baiting and trolling techniques depending on conditions. The goal is simple: put the best possible spread in front of moving sailfish and be ready when the opportunity comes.

When is sailfish season in West Palm Beach?

Sailfish can be encountered throughout the year in South Florida, but the cooler months are traditionally associated with some of the most exciting sailfish action. Cold fronts can produce favorable wind and current conditions that help push sailfish through the waters off Palm Beach.

Some days may produce one opportunity. Other days, when the conditions line up, multiple sailfish can move through an area and create fast-paced fishing. That's part of what makes sailfishing so addictive.

If catching a sailfish is the main goal of your trip, contact Remix before booking and we'll help you choose the time of year and trip length that gives you the best opportunity.

What is it like catching a sailfish?

There's a reason anglers travel to South Florida specifically to catch them. A sailfish strike can happen in seconds. A fish appears behind a bait, its dorsal fin lights up, the line comes tight and suddenly the fish is airborne.

Sailfish are known for blistering runs, spectacular jumps and their ability to change direction almost instantly. Whether it’s your first sailfish or your hundredth, watching one light up next to the boat never gets old.

Catching your first sailfish

Never caught a sailfish? That's exactly the kind of experience we love being part of. Our crew can handle the technical side of the fishing and guide you through the fight.

We'll explain what to expect, when to reel, when to follow the fish and how to react as the fish moves around the boat. You don't need tournament experience. You just need to be ready when the bite happens.

Serious sailfishing for experienced anglers

Experienced sailfish anglers are equally welcome. If you want a more hands-on fishing experience, talk to the crew before leaving the dock.

Our tournament background means we understand that experienced anglers may want to participate more directly in bait presentation, hookups and fighting fish. We can tailor the day to the experience level and goals of your group.

More than sailfish

Even on a dedicated sailfish trip, Palm Beach waters can produce other gamefish. Depending on the season and conditions, you may encounter:

  • Sailfish
  • Mahi-mahi
  • Wahoo
  • Blackfin tuna
  • Kingfish
  • Bonito
  • Cobia
  • Sharks

That's one of the great things about fishing the Gulf Stream — you never know exactly what is going to show up in the spread.
